A Three Dimensional Adaptive Finite Element Method For Electrostatic Problems

Abstract
This paper describes a three-dimensional finite element method for electostatic problems. Local errors are based on the continuity condition of the tangential component of electric field intensity and the normal component of electric flux density at the interfaces between elements in finite element method. Mesh refinement is carried out by using the method based on the bisection concept like refining triangular elements. The elements are refined into the two or eight according to the amount of the error estimated. It is shown that the proposed method is easily employed and acceptable for the three dimensional electrostatic field problems.
